Unusual process in plastics
Calender:
To prepare sheets of material by applying
pressure between two or more counter rotating rolls. Also the machine performing
this process.
Centrifugal
Casting:
A method of forming thermoplastic resins in which the
granular resin is placed in a rota-table container, heated to a molten
condition by the transfer of heat through the walls of the container, and
rotated so that centrifugal force included will force the molten resin to conform
to the configuration of the interior surface of the container.it is used to
fabricated large diameter pipes and similar cylindrical items.
Cold molding:
Cold molding:
Procedure in which a composition is shaped at room
temperature and cured by subsequent baking.
Drawing:
The process of stretching a thermoplastic to reduce its cross
sectional area, thus creating an orderly orientation of polymer chains with
respect to each other.
Embossing:
Technique used to create depression of a specific pattern in
plastics film and sheeting such embossing in the form of surface patterns can
be achieved on molded parts by the treatment of the mold surface by
photoengraving and other process.
Extrusion:
Process of compacting and melting a plastic material and
forcing it through an orifice in a continuous fashion. Material is conveyed
through the heated machine barrel by helical screw .where it is heated and
mixed homogeneous state and then forced through a die of the shape required for
the finished product.
Flame
Treating:
A method of rendering inert thermoplastic objects respective
to inks, lacquers, paints, adhesives etc.in which the object is bathed into an
open flame to promote oxidation of the surface of the articles.
Fusion
Bonding:
Process for joining plastic parts where mating surface are
heated to melting and held together under pressure. And also called as hot
plate welding.
Hot
gas welding:
A technique of joining thermoplastic materials whereby the material are softened by a jet of hot air from welding torch and are joined together at the softened point. Generally the thin rod of the same material is used to fill and consolidate the gap.
