People around you makes sure you know. either they say so or you feel that most people are slow. Let me take an example (a humblebrag) When i was in middle school a certain quiz-game which i can't remember the name of became popular. But you could have a minimum of two turns to win and a maximum of twenty-five. I rarely used more than two turns. I usually sat there like some oracle just answering they're questions. I was sitting answering for maybe six games and the questions were either science, art, history, sports or tv-shows. It came to the point where one guy actually said: “ You could actually be the next Einstein if you weren't so lazy" Another anecdote is that when i decided to apply for culinary school, my teachers were shocked.
