What is detonation?

What is detonation? Detonation : At present the amount of power that can be developed in the cylinder of a petrol engine is fixed by the liability of a fuel to detonate, just before the flame has completed its course across the combustion   chamber and remaining unburnt charge fires throughout its mass spontaneously without external assistance. The result is a tremendously rapid and increase in pressure which sets up pressure waves that hit the cylinder walls with such violence that the walls emit a sound like a ping. It is the ping that   manifests detonation. Thus a very sudden rise of pressure during combustion accompanied by metallic hammer like sound is called detonation. The region in which detonation occurs is farthest removed from the sparking plug , and is named the detonation zone and even with severe detonation this zone is rarely more than one quarter the clearance volume.

Flywheel

Flywheel The flywheel is a disk or wheel attached to the crank, forming an inertial mass that stores rotational energy. In engines with only a single cylinder the flywheel is essential to carry energy over the power stroke into a subsequent compression stroke.   Flywheel mostly present in reciprocating engines to smooth out the power delivery over each rotation of the crank and in most automotive engines also mounts a gear ring for a starter. The rotational inertia of the flywheel also allows a much slower minimum unloaded speed and also improves the smoothness at idle .the flywheel may also perform a part of the balancing of the system and so by itself be out of balance although most engines will use a neutral balance for the fly wheel ,enabling it to be balance in a separate operation. CRANKSHAFT In my all post I’m telling that this the major part you definitely get bored of this now also I’m going to say the same line crankshaft another major part in the engine but in this post bit I’m going to some technical words so you can understand better the mechanism and parts description .Crankshaft part which converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion .This motion of the piston is transmitted to the crank by the connecting rod. The crank shaft subjected to the torsional and bending stresses and is supported on the crankcase structure on large bearing .These crankshaft bearings are known as main bearings. The number of bearings varies depending on the dynamic load on it. For example a four-cylinder engine crank case may have two, three or five bearings. Parts in crankshaft Crankshaft contains many parts they are   crankpins, crank arms, crank journals, and driving ends the crankshaft attached to the fly wheel to reduce the pulsation char...
